Mike Fairbrother – Health Update

As several of you are aware, Mike has been undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer over the last several months and recently suffered a stroke which has exacerbated the situation.  He was discharged from Hospital several days ago and transferred to a nursing care home located not far from where they live.

I spoke to Lorraine today and she can get him home during the day, but he returns to respite care in the evenings. His speech is recovering a bit post stroke, but he is still having difficulties in that area.

I’m sure we all would want to send Mike and Lorraine and the family our best wishes as they navigate through this together.

Lorriane has provided following info via Mike Hyde with respect to background and current situation:

“After being diagnosed with cancer in late August, Mike had two rounds of chemo and on the eve of having a scan to see if the chemo was effective, he suffered a stroke which has left him with aphasia. Whilst his memory was not too badly affected and he is mobile and can eat and shower himself, his language and understanding have been impacted. It’s hard to say whether there will be any further significant improvement. We are thankful that he was not more severely impacted. Of course, he has the added burden of the cancer which gives him a great deal of anxiety and it’s going to be a tough time ahead. We can only take it one day at a time. Fortunately, we do have a faith which helps to give us strength to keep going on this journey. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do but he is now in a care home about 15 minutes away from our home. This is working out quite well as I can bring him home and our son and his family live close by so they too can visit him as well as friends who live locally. I know he will be cared for 24/7 for the future. Thank you to all those who have sent messages of love and support.”
