Bryan “Sounds” Smith RMC Drillie (71- 73?)

From Peter White (Class of 74)

“As advised by Noys, we have received the below information regarding the passing of WO1 Bryan Smith, better known to us and particularly the Kokoda guys, as SGT Bryan “Sounds” Smith, Kokoda Drill Sergeant during our time at Dunners.  (Don’t ask me where his nickname “Sounds” came from – perhaps someone else can enlighten us.) Sad to see another one go.  Farewell Sounds.”

And from me and as advised via email –

“Thanks to the several who provided advice on the nickname “Sounds”. The penny dropped here soon after I sent the initial email. In contrast to your average Drillie, he was relevantly quietly spoken and didn’t say that much. Hence the nickname “Sounds” from the “Sounds of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel.”

Due to Alf meandering around and ongoing power outages, the live service has been postponed to Mon 17 Mar at 11.30am. The link should still be OK to view the livestream
